The Tax Collector’s Office is responsible for collecting Real Estate taxes for all properties in Clark Township. The tax rate is determined by the budgets of the Township, County, and Public Schools.
Annual tax bills are mailed to property owners of record in July. When selling a property, owners are asked to give the tax bill to the buyers. New bills are not mailed when there is a change in ownership.
Taxes are due on:
- February 1
- May 1
- August 1
- November 1
If a property owner does not have a tax bill, use the tax payment site here to find out the exact amount owed. Failure to receive a bill does not exempt a taxpayer from paying tax bills or interest that may be due, NJSA 54:4-64.
Property owners that do not live at the address of the owned property and wish to have tax bills sent to another location can complete the Change of Billing Address Form for the Tax Collector.
Payments may be made automatically by ACH payment. This must be prearranged by submitting an authorization agreement to the tax office for ACH direct withdrawal for the tax collector.
Payment may also be made online at any time by credit card or with a transfer from a checking account. Residents can arrange electronic payment through their financial institution. Citizens should firmly establish the processing times needed by their financial institution to make these payments as they are mailed by the bank to the Township which can result in late fees if mail is delayed.
Finally, residents can pay tax bills by mail, in person or at the Township Drop-Box. The drop-box is located to the left of the front doors of the Municipal building. This box is locked and only accessible to the tax collector.
Payments must be received in the Tax office no later than the final day of the 10-day grace period. If the final day of the grace period falls on a weekend and/or holiday, the grace period is extended to the next business day.
After the 10-day grace period interest is applied, calculated at 8% on the first $1,500 past due and 18% for any amount over $1,500. (per NJSA 54 4, 1967). Properties with delinquent municipal charges (taxes, sewer and interest) totaling $10,000 or more at calendar year end are subject to an additional 6%-year end penalty.
Postmarks are not accepted. Postal delays are not the responsibility of the Tax office. The Tax Collector has no statutory authority to reduce a tax or waive interest charges.
Before paying your bill, avoid these common mistakes requiring the Tax Collector to return checks as this may result in delay of payment and result in interest charges on late payments:
- Check must have the current date; postdated checks are not accepted.
- Check is made payable to Clark Township
- Check is signed.
- The numeric amount matches the written amount.
- If a payment is past due, please enter your information on the tax payment site to find out the exact amount of interest due at that time to avoid additional interest charges.
- For mail, in-person and drop-box payment, please include the appropriate stub with your check. Your cancelled check is your receipt.
- The mailing address is :

There are property tax programs available through NJ for veterans and senior citizens. Applications are available below. The taxpayer must complete and submit the application, together with any proof required for approval of eligibility.
In the past, Clark Residents have been contacted by outside agencies offering services, for a fee, to bring Property Taxes Current, Redeem Liens or Obtain Refunds due to them. These agencies are not associated with the Tax Collector’s office and are not authorized to solicit business door to door. Consider using “No Soliciting” postings to keep unwanted visitors off of your property.
State law requires the Township to provide tax documents under the Open Public Records Act, such as delinquent taxes/sewer, overpayment of taxes/sewer and Open Tax Lien information.
Be advised that the Tax Collector’s office WILL NOT come to your house or call you. All communication, regarding Property Taxes and/or Sewer Utility charges, will be communicated through regular mail delivery on Township of Clark Letterhead.
Residents are strongly advised to contact the tax collector’s office at 732-428-8403 prior to entering any contract for such services.
There are no tax sales at this time.
